Baptism

Matthew 3:16
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:”

John 3:23
“And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.”

Acts 8:38
“And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”

We believe the first ordinance of the Lord’s church is baptism, and that it takes four requirements to have scriptural baptism.

1. The candidate – an individual who upon hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ, was convicted by the Holy Spirit, and trusted and put their faith in God, and was saved by God’s grace.
Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12; Acts 18:8; Acts 10:47, 48

2. Baptism by immersion- the complete immersion of the candidate in water, representing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on Calvary and His raising from the grave on the third day.
Acts 8:37,38,39; John 3:23; Romans 6:4; Colossians 2:12

3. The authority – given by one of God’s true churches. The church being one of those that he gave the great commission too, and that has held on to the practices and doctrines of the scriptures down through the ages.
Matthew 28:18,19, 20; I Corinthians 12:28

4. The administrator – a man that has been saved by the grace of God, been called by the divine calling of God to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, been ordained by one of God’s true churches, and been given authority by the local church to baptize individuals into the body of that local church.
John 1:6; Acts 1:22; Matthew 28:19
